On the Road

A medium term project in corporation with the City of Eindhoven and the
Design Academy Eindhoven

Objectives

We will develop innovative approaches for the public service sector dealing
with street prostitution. These innovative service solutions should give more
self-responsibility to the women. They should maintain and improve the
living conditions that have been achieved by setting up the Tippelzone. They
should be accepted and best case even supported by the stakeholders in
Eindhoven.

Even if these objectives cannot be completely achieved in a medium term
project the process of the project and the results should set the start to a
constructive Service Design for the street prostitution in Eindhoven.

The Project

There are two major phases to the project: the discovery and the creation
phase. During the discovery phase the students will take a deep dive into the
topic of street prostitution in a broad and in a very specific way. Broad
research will cover the history of prostitution, analysis of benchmarks, a look
at prostitution in literature and film … The specific research in the discovery
phase will take a deep dive into the situation in Eindhoven, into the lives of
the women, into the perspectives of the different stakeholders in the city of
Eindhoven – politicians, the people, the companies and more.

On the foundation of the insights gained in the discovery phase we will design
new services in the creation phase. These can be as well very realistic but also
very futuristic. In parts the services will be co-created with the women and
the stakeholders and they will be prototyped.

A journalist team will work parallel throughout the whole process and
document everything to be published in a documentation and in the Cahiers of
Eindhoven. May be we will be able to set up an online communication
platform to support transparency between the different project partners.

Cooperation

We will cooperate with the City of Einhoven and with the Design Academy.

1. Briefing – will be given by Veronique Beurskens in Cologne on April 15th
2. Discovery: activities that will take place in Eindhoven and especially with the women will be coordinated in order to avoid too much intrusion.
3. Results of the Discovery will be shared with the DA in Eindhoven on Mai 14th
4. The final presentation of the KISD project will take place in Cologne on May 30th.

We will corporate with the City of Eindhoven in the preparation of a
Conference / Workshop where the results of the DA Eindhoven project and
the results of the KISD project will be presented. The Conference will take
place June 25th or 26th.
